McLane aims for NYL title; Kingsburg rallies to win over Kerman, plus Top 25 fared
McLane High is inching one step closer in wrapping up the North Yosemite League title.
The Highlanders rolled to a 50-17 victory over Sanger West at Tom Flores Stadium.
The win puts McLane at 5-0 in sole possession of the NYL lead after Hoover lost to Torres 22-21.
The Highlanders and Hoover will meet in the NYL finale in two weeks.
McLane was put in position to win the NYL title after Sunnyside had to forfeit wins because of an ineligible player.
McLane picked up a forfeit win over Sunnyside. Both teams met Sept. 19 where the Wildcats had won 13-6.
The Highlanders next game is against Madera South.
Kingsburg rallies for win over Kerman
Kingsburg scored 14 unanswered points to rally to defeat Kerman 17-14 in the Tri-County Conference.
The go-ahead score came when Kade Holt found Chros Browe for the touchdown with three minutes remaining.
The Vikings’ defense played a big role, too.
Noah Payne recovered a fumble early in the third quarter and also forced two punts.
A fake punt in the fourth quarter led to Kingsburg’s go-ahead touchdown. Greg Ross executed the fake punt.
“Boys played well,” Kingsburg coach David Wilson said. “Really were able to move the ball most of the night, just shot ourselves in the first half with penalties and a turnover in the red zone.”
Sanger controls Edison in CMAC race
Sanger High rolled into Ratcliffe Stadium and came away with a 41-8 victory over Edison.
The Apaches are the leaders in the County/Metro Athletic Conference at 3-0 with games remaining against Madera and San Joaquin Memorial.
The Panthers kept pace with a 25-23 victory over Madera.
Sanger and Memorial will play in two weeks.
Kayden McGrew and Kendale McGrew combined to score four rushing touchdowns. Kayden McGrew rushed for 108 yards, while Kendale McGrew ran for 98 yards.
The Bee’s prediction results
OK, that is a little better.
After going 1-4 in Week 8, The Bee bounced back and went 4-1 this week.
The only loss came when Kingsburg railled for a 17-14 victory over Kerman.
The wins came from Clovis East, Bullard, San Joaquin Memorial and Corcoran.
The Bee is 38-10.
