Prep football: An ‘impressive’ Sanger takes care of business in a win over Lemoore
It was a no-doubter for the Sanger High football team.
And a good response after losing a week ago to Clovis East.
This time, The Bee’s 10th-ranked Apaches never looked back in a 42-13 victory over host No. 7 Lemoore in a nonleague high school game on Friday night
Sanger coach Matt Logue was energized by the way his team responded.
“Pretty impressive the way we physically dominated the game on the offensive side of the ball,” he said. “Defensively, we played really well as well.”
Lemoore was coming off a tough loss to Clovis West, 27-26.
The Tigers never could get in sync, and Sanger took advantage in a big way.
Jaden Chanthalangsy completed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Young with 4 minutes left in the half to extend the lead to 27-7. After the Tigers trimmed the lead down to 28-14 in the third quarter, the Apaches kept pouring it on by scoring the next 14 points to put the game away for good.
“We were all very disappointed after the Clovis East loss,” Logue said. “When you’re competitive, you hate losing. All week I wasn’t happy and our guys were the same way. It didn’t feel like we had that great week of practice. We were pretty upset about the loss and we came out and played really hard and physically on both sides of the ball.”
Chanthalangsy said “we had to get the ship rolling” after losing to Clovis East.
There was no way around it.
“That was a tough loss last week, but we fought hard this week and got a great win,” he said. “I had to give the ball to my athletes. Lemoore and Sanger is always a pretty good game.”
