Highlight-worthy plays by Harold Duvall leads Clovis East past Sanger in rivalry game
Clovis East wide receiver Harold Duvall was paying attention to what was being said on social media leading up to the Silver Spear trophy game against Sanger.
He said that the Apaches were talking all week about beating the Timberwolves.
It seems Duvall took that personally, and showed it on the field Thursday night at Lamonica Stadium.
He finished with three touchdowns, including an interception return for a touchdown in The Bee’s No. 3-ranked Clovis East’s 42-21 victory over No. 9 Sanger in a high school football nonleague game, retaining the Silver Spear for a second straight season.
“We prepared ourselves all week,” Duvall said. “It showed today.”
Duvall’s first two touchdowns were highlight-worthy touchdown plays.
His first touchdown came with 9:20 left in the third quarter when he jumped high for the ball and caught it over a defender that gave Clovis East (3-0) a 21-14 lead..
Then his second touchdown came with 1:46 left in the third quarter when he dove for the ball and caught it in the end zone to increase the Timberwolves’ lead to 28-14.
He said it was “all preparation” and “I’ve been working on that all week.”
Clovis East Brandon Nagle knew how well Sanger would be prepared for the game.
The Apaches (2-1) were coming off a big 33-21 win over Clovis at the same stadium last week.
“We talked all week about having a four quarter game,” Nagle said. “Finding that chip on our shoulder, finding whatever it takes to win and finish it.”
It is always good for Nagle when he has Tyus Miller, who passed for three touchdowns, and Duvall on his team.
Nothing new, Nagle said.
“He’s been doing that since day one,” he said. “He did that last year and he continues to do it. He’s a hell of a player and he works so hard and is a great leader.”
Timberwolves running back Caleb Slocum had two touchdowns and wide receiver Aidan Wilson also had a touchdown.
