Week 5 high school football scores: Friday’s latest results, Week 4 player of the week vote

Here are the latest high school football results from around the CIF Central Section, including a big game between Kingsburg and Selma in the Battle for the Fire Extinguisher.

Daniel Ortega nailed a 35-yard field goal with 13.8 seconds left to give the Vikings a 17-15 win, helping eighth-ranked Kingsburg complete an unbeaten season at 5-0.

Kingsburg now leads the series with Selma 50-36-2.

Buchanan wraps up TRAC

Top-ranked Buchanan finished a 5-0 sweep of the Tri-River Athletic Conference with a 36-13 win over Clovis East.

The Bears secured the school’s ninth league title, first since 2015.

Central, which had won the last four TRAC championships, wrapped up a runner-up finish.

Third-place Clovis beat Clovis West 42-17 in the Range Rider Trophy game that started after Clovis West became Clovis Unified’s second high school. Clovis West leads the series 26-23.

Unbeatens

Reedley and San Joaquin Memorial each stayed unbeaten with one more week left in their seasons.

But Fowler knocked off previously unbeaten Caruthers 28-22.

Rivalry games

Hanford beat Lemoore 48-7 in the Milk Can Game. Hanford leads the series 42-33-2.

Tulare Union reclaimed the trophy by beating Tulare Western 20-14 in the Bell Game. Tulare Union leads the series 40-16.

Player of the Week winner

Jayson Hernandez of Tulare Western is the winner of The Fresno Bee’s Player of the Week voting for Week 4.

Hernandez finished with 48.7%, ahead of Ashton Rodriguez of Sanger who had 41.4%. Rounding out the top five is Dominic Martinez of Orosi (6%), Aaron Oliveras (2.5%) and Danny Olivera of Firebaugh (1%).

Hernandez is a junior kicker and he made the winning 27-yard field goal in a 24-21 win over Lemoore. He was out Week 3 because of an injury.
