‘They have everything ... and a bit more.’ Clovis DT Keanu Williams commits to Oregon
One way or another, Clovis High senior defensive tackle Keanu Williams was set to play in the Pac-12.
He made his verbal commitment this weekend, choosing to play next fall for the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Ore. His other choices were fellow Pac-12 schools Stanford, UCLA and USC.
“They have everything I need and want and a little bit more,” Williams said of the Ducks, traditionally one of the conference’s highest profile programs. “I feel like they have everything I’ve always been asking for. I know they have it and that’s why I picked them.”
Williams is the third football player from the Fresno/Clovis area to commit this weekend.
On Friday, Central wide receiver Xavier Worthy chose Michigan, and Saturday afternoon, San Joaquin Memorial running back Jordan Hornbeak announced he would play at Fresno State.
In 2019, the 6-foot-5 Williams racked up 85 tackles, including 14 for a loss, eight sacks and two forced fumbles. For his Cougars career, Williams has 195 tackles, including 39 for a loss with 16 sacks.
Cougars coach Rich Hammond said he cannot wait to see Williams play at Oregon.
“Keanu is a great example of a young person making a commitment to doing things, the right way even when it’s the hard way, on the field, in the classroom, and in the community,” he said.
“I am excited to watch Keanu continue to make the community of Clovis proud at Oregon, continuing to grow as a student athlete and exceptional young man.”
Williams said Ducks fans can expect him to “be one of the best people on and off the field.”
“They’re getting their all from me,” he said. “They’re getting a real special player and person ... most definitely they are.”
