SEC taking notice of Fresno prep football star Xavier Worthy. Alabama is the latest
Central High junior wide receiver Xavier Worthy is the next Fresno-area big recruiit that Southeastern Conference schools are hoping to bring in.
Alabama offered a scholarship Wednesday, the day after Georgia offered the 6-foot-1 speedster.
The Bulldogs already have a local recruit in former Buchanan High star Kendall Milton who will be entering his freshman season at Georgia.
Worthy, rated a four-star recruit by 247Sports, said he was excited to talk to Alabama coach Nick Saban. The conversation lasted 30 minutes, Worthy said, with Saban telling him about “building character” and how successful the Crimson Tide has been in sending wide receivers to the NFL.
The latest came in last month’s draft, Henry Ruggs III to the Las Vegas Raiders and Jerry Jeudy to the Denver Broncos.
SEC programs Auburn and Tennessee have made offers to Worthy, too.
“Any SEC offer is good,” he said. “That’s the SEC. It’s a big league and everybody wants to be in the SEC since growing up. It’s crazy that I got offers from them.”
Worthy has 18 offers total including hometown school Fresno State and Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines.
He’s coming off a junior season when he had 55 receptions for 995 yards and 16 touchdowns and helped Central to a Division 1-AA state championship with a 34-19 victory over Sierra Canyon-Chatsworth.
Worthy said he’s in no rush to make a decision.
“I’m just focused on my last year in high school,” he said. “I’m trying to break all the state records and help our team win.”
