Four area players stood out in the Central Section high school football championship games last week, earning nominations for Player of the Week.
Central (Division I), San Joaquin Memorial (Division II), Bakersfield Christian (Division III), Selma (Division iV), Caruthers (Division V) and Bishop Union (Division VII) won team championships.
Player of the Week voting will run until noon Thursday and the winner will be revealed later that day.

Here is a look at the four nominees:
RB Jekob Jones, Central: The junior was instrumental in the Grizzlies’ 28-21 victory over Buchanan. He finished with three rushing touchdowns including Central’s final score in the third quarter.
WR Jalen McMillan, San Joaquin Memorial: The senior had four receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown, helping the Panthers to a 35-16 victory over Tulare Western. And by the way, McMillan is in the top 10 in state career rankingss with 251 receptions (10th best), 5,121 yards (third) and 54 touchdowns (eighth), according to section historian Bob Barnett.
RB Zach Zarate, Selma: Behind a stellar offensive line, the junior rushed 16 times for 107 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter,helping the Bears to a 35-21 victory over top-seeded Washington Union.
RB Bobby Staley, Caruthers: The senior put his fingerprints on the Blue Raiders’ 27-22 victory over Dos Palos, scoring two touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
