Caruthers High missed a field goal at the end of regulation, then gave up a field goal in overtime to lose to Orange 46-43 Friday night in the state South Division 6-AA football regional.

It ended Caruthers’ undefeated season, a week after the Blue Raiders kept their magical run going with a 49-42 victory over Firebaugh for the Central Section Division V championship.

Imanol Arredondo scored three touchdowns for Caruthers (12-1), the last to give the Blue Raiders a 43-35 lead with 7:02 left in the game. After Orange tied it on a touchdown and two-point conversion, Caruthers drove into range for a 35-year field goal try in the final seconds that went wide right.

Orange stopped Caruthers on the opening possession of overtime, then got in position to kick a winning 18-yard field goal.

Orange has an enrollment of about 2,000 compared with Caruthers’ 575.
