How quickly did TRAC power Buchanan trigger the mercy rule at Porterville?
Buchanan High breezed by Porterville on Friday with a 48-0 win on the road.
But the real test comes next Thursday when Buchanan (5-0), No. 2 in The Bee’s Top 10 coaches poll, takes on top-ranked Central (4-1) in what could be a preview of the Central Section Division I championship. It will be the Tri-River Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
While Central was on a bye, Buchanan quickly disposed of Porterville.

And the Bears did so without relying much on star running back Kendall Milton.
Instead, Buchanan received touchdowns from players such as receiver Jordan Huddleston and quarterback Carson Bailey, who scored for the first time as part of the Bears program.
Bailey is the younger brother of former Clovis North star quarterback Brent Bailey, a walk-on freshman at Fresno State.

Milton did manage to charge through for a 1-yard score.
By the end of the third quarter, Buchanan activated the mercy rule and its running game clock with a 41-0 lead.
This is the fourth straight year Buchanan has defeated Porterville, with a combined score of 172-18.
Central, by the way, is coming off a 49-30 loss to De La Salle-Concord, ranked 18th in USA TODAY’s Experts national Top 25.
