Clovis West boys basketball coach is out, though Golden Eagles still in season
Clovis West High boys basketball coach Nicholas Podesta will be let go at the end of the season, a source confirmed to The Fresno Bee.
The job posting for a replacement has been posted to the Clovis Unified School District website, though the Golden Eagles season is not yet over. Clovis West has had its ups and downs, playing a challenging schedule, and is 13-17, 6-4 in the Tri-River Athletic Conference. They are waiting a berth in the California Interscholastic Federation state playoffs.
Podesta will coach Clovis West in the postseason, the source said. The CIF state playoff pairings will be announced on Sunday.
Clovis West hired Podesta from Weston Ranch in Stockton where he compiled a 68-26 record with three league titles, after Vance Walberg left to take the job at Fresno State.
Walberg is in midst of a historically bad season for the Bulldogs, in addition to an internal investigation into gambling. Two players have been dismissed from the team, and a third has been suspended.
