Twenty high school boys basketball teams played in the Martin Luther King Jr. Super Saturday Showcase at Edison High.

It also meant it was the 10th showcase that Edison has put on where they featured several teams every year.

Michael Fulford is in his second season as the Tigers coach and said it’s special to keep hosting the annual showcase.

“Just wanted to celebrate the rich history of Martin Luther King,” Fulford said. “Just kind of neighborhood collaboration of being able to see some great basketball, great fellowship and just understanding what this movie is about.”

Teams participating in the showcase was host Edison, Hoover, Roosevelt, Fowler, Mendota, Selma, Stockdale, Lemoore, Frontier, Madera, North, Sunnyside, Liberty-Bakersfield, Firebaugh, Torres, Hanford, Redwood, Independence, Centennial and Vanden-Fairfield.

The event opened between Fowler and Mendota, won by the Aztecs 65-63 in overtime.

“I want to make sure that not only are people able to see good teams, but they want to see good basketball games,” Fulford said.

“I work real diligently and make sure that our matchups are under control. I want to make sure that the strength of schedule for each team (is strong) when it comes to playoff time. These games matter.”

Fulford said it’s his hope that the showcase will grow to 24 teams in 2025 by bringing in Southern California teams.

Results from each game includes Player of the Game:

Vanden-Fairfield 62, Edison 45 (Tyler Thompson)

Sunnyside 65, Liberty-Bakersfield 60 (Malachi Barnes)
