Caruthers’ Emmi Almeida voted the Fresno area Athlete of Week for Jan. 1-5
Emmi Almeida of the Caruthers girls basketball team was voted The Fresno Bee’s Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 1-6.
Almedia finished the poll with 5,635 votes (49%), ahead of San Joaquin Memorial’s Sienna Evans who finished with 3,960 votes (34%).
Parker Spees of the San Joaquin Memorial boys basketball team had 1,810 votes (16%).
Seventeen high school athletes were nominated from basketball and soccer.
Voting ended at 11:59 p.m. Jan. 14.
Recent winners were Cedric Hughes, McLane basketball; Jacob Davis, Clovis North soccer; DJ Stickman, Clovis West basketball; Krista Sheaffer, Sanger girls basketball; Kenyah Stubbs, Hanford girls basketball; Kennedy Cutler, Redwood volleyball; Daniel Galvez, Sanger cross country; Faith Cortez, Roosevelt volleyball; Alexa Vaca, Sanger cross country; Lake McQuoid, Sierra boys water polo; Asterisk Talley, Chowchilla golf; Evan Torres, Parlier cross country; Riley McDaniels, El Diamante girls cross country; Kinsley Allan, Sanger girls cross country; Vanessa Villavicencio, Sanger West volleyball; Kennedy Cutler, Redwood volleyball; Faith Bakker, Immanuel volleyball; Davin Collazo, Kingsburg girls water polo; and Drew Rhoads, Lemoore water polo.
