Bee’s prep football Week 8 predictions: One of these teams will lose its first game
All three Tri-River Athletic Conference games stand out as Week 8 of high school football kicks off in the Fresno and Bakersfield areas.
The Bee has predictions on these spotlight games: Clovis West-Clovis East, Buchanan-Central, Clovis-Clovis North, Lemoore-Mission Oak and Porterville-Redwood.
For the season, The Bee is 25-10.
No. 1 Clovis West (6-0, 1-0 TRAC) vs. No. 8 Clovis East (6-0, 1-0 TRAC)
When: 6:30 p.m. Friday at Lamonica Stadium
The Golden Eagles got past a huge hurdle to start the TRAC by defeating then-No. 1 Buchanan 29-22.
Now they will face another hot team in the Timberwolves, a high-scoring bunch that needed a Hail Mary to defeat Clovis North 39-35.
Prediction: Clovis West 47, Clovis East 38
No. 3 Buchanan (5-1, 1-0 TRAC) at No. 6 Central (4-2, 1-0)
When: 6:30 p.m. Friday at Koligian Stadium
How will the Bears respond after their first loss of the season? It will be another tough one for Buchanan, going up against the Grizzlies who are coming off a 27-21 win over Clovis.
This could come down to the wire. The Bee went back and forth on this prediction.
Prediction: Buchanan 34, Central 30
No. 10 Clovis (3-3, 0-1 TRAC) vs. No. 13 Clovis North (3-3, 0-1)
When: 6:30 p.m. Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium
Both teams showed how strong they can be even in defeat last week.
Prediction: Clovis North 27, Clovis 24
No. 11 Lemoore (5-1, 1-0 WYL) at No. 14 Mission Oak (5-1, 1-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bob Mathias Stadium
Expect to see a lot of points in this West Yosemite League showdown.
Lemoore has put up 286 points while Mission Oak has 199 points for the season.
Prediction: Lemoore 54, Mission Oak 47
No. 16 Porterville (6-0, 1-0 EYL) at No. 15 Redwood (4-2, 1-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mineral King Bowl
Porterville has been playing some strong defense, limiting opponents to 46 points.
But Redwood has scored 197 and appears poised to take control in the East Yosemite League.
Prediction: Redwood 27, Porterville 23
