The Bee’s Top 25 high school football rankings: New No. 1 team and upsets drop teams
Clovis West is The Fresno Bee’s new No. 1 high school football team after defeating Buchanan 29-22 in a back-and-forth finish Friday night at Lamonica Stadium.
Undefeated Clovis West was listed as the fifth-ranked team in the preseason rankings and has put together six solid performances to steadily climb to the top.
Clovis West will be tested again Friday, facing No. 8 Clovis East, also 6-0.
The Timberwolves remain eighth because No. 2 Liberty-Bakersfield, No. 4 San Joaquin Memorial, No. 5 Central Valley Christian, No. 6 Central and No. 7 Kingsburg won their games.
Buchanan fell from the top to No. 3 after its first loss. The Bears hold a victory over Memorial and beat Liberty in a game shortened by about 11 minutes because of lightning.
Hanford’s second-straight overtime loss, 36-30 to Dinuba, dropped the Bullpups 12 spots to No. 25. The Emperors appear in the rankings at No. 22.
Reedley was upset by Immanuel, dropping the Pirates seven spots to No. 24.
