Bee’s prep football Week 6 predictions: David vs. Goliath matchup highlights schedule
Many Central Section high school football teams are on a bye this week as they get ready for the league season beginning next week.
But there are still five interesting matchups for The Bee to predict outcomes, including the Game of the Week between unbeatens Clovis East and Kerman that will be played at 7 p.m. Friday at Lamonica Stadium.
Both teams have been surprises this season and it should be an entertaining nonleague game.
For the season, The Bee is 17-8.
No. 24 Kerman (4-0) at No. 8 Clovis East (4-0)
A David vs. Goliath-esque matchup between Clovis East of the Tri-River Athletic Conference (enrollment about 2,700) and Kerman (growing, but only to about 1,600).
The Timberwolves are led by QB Ty Miller who has thrown 1,006 yards and 13 touchdowns of which five of those touchdowns went to WR Harold Duvall.
The Clovis East offense has put up 40-plus points in each of the first four games of the season.
The Lions come into the game with wins over Chowchilla, Torres, Madera and Sunnyside. Kerman held the Wildcats to 18 points. Kerman is led by QB Ashton Chalabian who has five rushing touchdowns. WR Adam Delgado has four touchdowns.
Prediction: Clovis East 44, Kerman 24
No. 15 Reedley (4-0) at Mt. Whitney (1-3)
The Pirates have been impressive this season, but that’s nothing new under coach Tony Gates.
Reedley is coming off a 47-27 victory over Selma in Week 5. The Pirates used the running game to get into the end zone five times.
The Pioneers have lost three straight since opening the season with a win. Mt. Whitney is coming off a bye.
Prediction: Reedley 29, Mt. Whitney 20
Tulare Union (1-3) at No. 7 Kingsburg (4-0)
The Vikings defense is stingy this season, only allowing 33 points.
Kingsburg rolled past Golden West last week, 41-10.
The Tribe has given up 20-plus points in the past three games.
Prediction: Kingsburg 47, Tulare Union 23
Exeter (3-1) at Porterville (4-0)
Porterville is knocking on The Bee’s Top 25 poll after a close 30-28 win over Highland last week.
Rocky Arguijo led the way when he passed for 303 yards and two touchdowns, and Jaret Garcia finished with 21 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns.
Exeter started the season with an 18-12 loss to Strathmore, but since reeled off three straight wins with the latest coming against Granite Hills (63-0).
Prediction: Porterville 34, Exeter 28
McLane (2-2) at Torres (2-2)
This is the second week for the new-look North Yosemite League, and this game pits two of the four opening-week winners.
The Highlanders defeated Fresno 28-21 last week while Torres defeated Roosevelt 26-20 in the last second.
This should be another close one for both teams.
Prediction: Torres 27, McLane 24
