Bee’s prep football Week 3 predictions: Who wins between Clovis West and Lemoore?
Who will come out on top in the five key Fresno-area high school football Week 3 games?
The Game of the Week is Clovis West traveling to Lemoore. The other top matchups in the area are Foothill-Palo Cedro at Buchanan, Clovis East at Sanger, Kingsburg at Dinuba and Kerman at Madera.
Last week, The Bee went 3-2 after Clovis, Bullard and Kingsburg victories. The Bee incorrectly picked Central and Washington Union to win.
For the season, The Bee is 8-2.
No. 3 Clovis West (2-0) at No. 18 Lemoore (2-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday (TV: CW 59)
The Golden Eagles head into the matchup outscoring their opponents 90-0.
Clovis West running back Aidan Fortenberry has 26 carries for 151 yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Landon Wright has seven receptions for 225 yards and three touchdowns.
The Golden Eagles’ defense is stout to start the season, led by Mychael Crawford’s team-leading 14 tackles with two tackles for a loss and a sack.
The Tigers counter with quarterback Ty Chambers who wears a unique number (42) for his position and has thrown for seven touchdowns and also has a rushing touchdown.
Preston Scott has been electrifying for Lemoore. He has 207 kickoff return yards and 188 punt return yards.
In last week’s 56-35 win over Washington Union, Scott had two touchdowns by way of an 85-yard kickoff return and a reception.
Prediction: Clovis West 45, Lemoore 37
Foothill-Palo Cedro (1-0) at No. 2 Buchanan (2-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
It’s another intersectional matchup for the Bears who are coming off a thrilling 41-40 overtime victory over Escalon.
Bears quarterback Jayden Mandal completed 17 of 29 for 259 yards and one touchdown and had two rushing touchdowns.
Colton O’Toole had seven receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown.
Kicker Beau Brusseau was 5 for 5 on extra points and made two field goals, including sending the game to overtime.
The Cougars got by Edison-Stockton 21-17 last week, picking up a touchdown in the fourth quarter for the win.
Prediction: Buchanan 34, Foothill 17
No. 12 Clovis East (2-0) at Sanger (1-1)
When: 8:30 p.m. Friday
In wins over Dinuba and Atwater, Clovis East has outscored its opponents 100-42.
Timberwolves quarterback Ty Miller is leading the way, completing 27 of 44 for 561 yards with nine touchdowns and no interceptions. Four of those touchdowns went to wide receiver Harold Duvall who had six receptions for 257 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Lamaj Travis has four touchdowns.
Duvall also has an interception that he returned for a 72-yard touchdown.
The Apaches are looking to overcome a 14-7 loss to Clovis at Tom Flores Stadium last week.
Sanger led 7-0 in the first quarter on Jacob Gonzalez’s touchdown.
Prediction: Clovis East 27, Sanger 10
No. 11 Kingsburg (2-0) at Dinuba (1-1)
These teams were rivals in the now-defunct Central Sequoia League.
The Vikings took it to Sunnyside at Sunnyside Stadium last week.
Kingsburg trailed 3-0 to the Wildcats last week, but outscored Sunnyside 28-0 in the second quarter and rolled to a 49-9 victory.
The defense made it difficult for Sunnyside with five interceptions. Tanner Wilson threw three interceptions and had a career-low 79 passing yards.
After falling to Clovis East 49-21 in the season-opener, Dinuba trailed Golden West 6-0 before winning 19-6.
The Emperors trailed 6-0 before scoring the next 19 points for the win.
Prediction: Kingsburg 47, Dinuba 13
Kerman (2-0) at Madera (1-1)
The Lions are off to a thrilling start under first-year coach Damon Jenkins, defeating Chowchilla 35-28 and Torres 28-21.
Ashton Chalabian scored on a 15-yard run in the win over Torres. He has five rushing touchdowns as the quarterback.
The Coyotes come into the matchup after picking up a 40-35 victory over Selma.
Madera’s Ty Davis led the way when he threw for three touchdowns and ran for two and Josh Marchan had an interception.
Prediction: Madera 43, Kerman 34
