Prep softball rankings: Two teams enter Bee Top 25; Milestone nears for this coach

Behind pitcher Ryan Maddox, Fresno Bee high school softball No. 1 Clovis North continues to roll in the Tri-River Athletic Conference.

The Broncos recorded wins over Clovis and Central. Maddox had a combined 28 strikeouts — 18 against the Grizzlies.

Central had a tough week against TRAC foes, also losing to Clovis. The Grizzlies dropped three spots to No. 7, while Bullard moved up to No. 6.

Clovis East enters the rankings after rolling past previously-ranked Clovis West 21-4. The Timberwolves sit at No. 24 ahead of newly ranked Madera at No. 25.

Around the horn

Clovis pitcher Lauryn Carranco struck out 10 to help the Cougars to a 2-0 victory over Clovis East.

Buchanan rolled to a 6-0 win over Clovis West when Christal Lopez threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

In Clovis East’s 21-4 victory over Clovis West, Celine Ramos went 3 for 5 with five RBI.

Madera coach Judy Shaubach is one win away from picking up 700 wins. The Coyotes defeated Madera South 10-0 and Sanger 5-4 to get Shaubach closer to the milestone. Madera plays Bullard on Tuesday and San Joaquin Memorial on Friday. Shaubach will join Mike D’Amato of Independence and Mike Noel of Clovis to reach the milestone, according to Central Section historian Bob Barnett.
