Bee’s Best: Morgan Trigueiro wins The Bee’s Athlete of the Week poll for Jan. 31-Feb. 5

Morgan Trigueiro of Caruthers basketball is The Bee’s Girls Athlete of the Week winner for Jan. 31-Feb.

She received 58,950 votes (69%) to finish on top.

Placing second was Gizelle Aguirre of Caruthers soccer who picked up 7,145 votes (8%). Coming in third was Mariah Martinez of Fresno soccer (6,246 votes, 7%).

Trigueiro set a school record with a game-high 47 points and 12 3-pointers in a win over Fowler, according to section historian Bob Barnett.

Nineteen athletes were nominated last week.

The nominees were from basketball and soccer.

The poll closed at noon Saturday.

Recent winners: Athena Tomlinson of Clovis West basketball, Melayna Vasquez of Fowler soccer and Darleth Felix of Tulare Union basketball.
