Exeter in state volleyball finals, plus full list of Fresno-area results

Exeter High reached the state Division IV volleyball finals before falling Saturday to University Prep-San Francisco.

U-Prep beat the Monarchs 19-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-18, 15-11.

Hannah Baker had 16 kills and 21 kills for Exeter, which was vying to be the first school from Tulare County to win state. Haven Rich added 13 kills, 17 digs and five aces. Madisson Woods was credited with 16 digs.

Clovis makes regional final

After a first-round bye, Division II top-seeded Clovis High started the California Interscholastic Federation regional volleyball playoffs Nov. 11 with a five-set quarterfinal victory.

The Cougars beat visiting Granite Hills and advanced to a Northern California semifinal where they defeated No. 4 Pleasant Grove at home 22-25, 20-25, 25-8, 25-17, 15-6 on Nov. 13.

Clovis (27-9) lost to No. 2 Redwood-Larkspur 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 16-14 in the regional final at home Tuesday.

All five Clovis Unified schools made the regionals. Buchanan, No. 8 in D-IV, lost 3-2 (15-25, 27-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-12) at No. 1 Branham in the quarterfinals.

One other Fresno-area team won its quarterfinal: SoCal D-IV No. 3 Exeter swept No. 6 Irvine (25-18, 25-13, 25-20). The Monarchs played at home Nov. 13 and swept No. 7 Bishop Diego.

The Monarchs beat No. 8 Capistrano Valley Christian 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 in the regional final at home Tuesday. Exeter (28-10) plays NorCal No. 2 University Prep (41-5) in the state final Saturday at 11 a.m. at Santiago Canyon College in Orange.

Also in SoCal D-IV, No. 5 Tulare Western lost 3-1 at No. 4 Chatsworth.

In NorCal D-V, No. 16 Reedley lost 3-1 at No. 8 Drew (25-23, 25-11, 21-25, 25-22).

Reedley opens playoffs with biggest upset

Reedley High opened the California Interscholastic Federation regional volleyball playoffs with the biggest of upsets, winning in five sets Tuesday night at Northern California Division V top-seeded The Bay School in San Francisco.

The 16th-seeded Pirates earned a return trip to San Francisco on Thursday for a quarterfinal against Drew, another private school.

Reedley (20-18) was coming off a three-set loss to Mission Oak in the Central Section D-V final.
