Winner of the third FresnoBee.com winter sports Player of the Week is ...

Aaliyah Thompson of the Corcoran High girls basketball team is the winner of The Fresno Bee’s Player of the Week for Jan. 27-Feb. 1.

Thompson totaled 22,854 votes (45%) in a poll that ended at 5 p.m. Friday. Following Thompson was Shawn Rodgers of Immanuel with 20,657 votes (41%).

Rounding out the poll was Ryan Franco of Clovis North (7%), Clarissa Moreno of Selma (6%) and Ashley Wainwright of Redwood (2%).

Thompson, a sophomore, had two big games: She had 28 points and 18 rebounds in a 52-48 victory over Farmersville then 30 points and 15 rebounds in a 47-30 victory against Lindsay.

She passed 1,000 career points, according to Central Section historian Bob Barnett.

The poll will return Wednesday.
