Three prep soccer teams make history with victories, ending long league-title droughts

It had been a long time since the Sanger High boys soccer team earned a league title.

But the Apaches on Thursday ended a nearly 40-year title drought, defeating Madera 2-0 to win the County/Metro Athletic Conference title outright.

It’s Sanger’s first league title since 1981, according to Central Section historian Bob Barnett.

The Fresno High girls soccer team also ended a long run without a league title.

The Warriors knocked off rival Roosevelt 1-0 to share the North Yosemite League title with the Rough Riders.

It is Fresno’s first NYL title since 1994, Barnett said.

Kerman girls defeated Yosemite 2-1 in overtime to secure a co-North Sequoia League title with the Badgers.

It is the first league title for the Lions in school history.
