Fresno State head coach Matt Entz retains two coaches, one familiar to Bulldogs fans

Fresno State football head coach Matt Entz is quickly putting his staff together and bringing back cornerbacks coach JD Williams is one of them.

Entz also retained running backs coach Aaron Prier.

He already brought in offensive coordinator (Josh Smith) and defensive coordinator (Nick Bendetto), special teams (John Baxter) and offensive line (Zach Crabtree).

Williams spent the past eight seasons with the Bulldogs as the defensive backs coach. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 1997, was in assistant in 2000-2001 before returning in 2017 as cornerbacks coach.

He played in the NFL and was a first round draft pick (16th overall) by the Buffalo Bills in the 1990 NFL Draft.

He retired after the 1996 season.

Williams coached many notable players, including Dallas Cowboys standout DaRon Bland.

Prier, meanwhile, completed his second season as the Bulldogs running backs coach. He was hired by then-coach Jeff Tedford.

Prier spent two seasons at Eastern Washington and six at Idaho State.
