Another coaching hire was made by Fresno State football coach Matt Entz.

And it is a coach that went against the Bulldogs at the Famous Potato Bowl.

Nick Benedetto is named the defensive coordinator where he served the same position and safeties coach the past three seasons at Northern Illinois.

The same Northern Illinois team that defeated Fresno State 28-20 in the bowl game.

Under Benedetto, the Huskies were the lone FBS team to not allow 400 yards in a game. Northern Illinois defense did not allow a 100-yard rusher.

Benedetto’s defense held 21 of its last 26 opponents to 25 points or less, including 12 of its last 13 with Fresno State being one in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Benedetto did wonders for Northern Illinois when he first arrived. The Huskies doubled its turnovers forced from 2022 with 20.

He also coached at Samford and Sioux Falls.

Benedetto joins Josh Davis (offensive coordinator), John Baxter (special teams coordinator) and Zach Crabtree (offensive line) hired by Entz.
