Quarterback Jake Haener has withdrawn his name from the NCAA transfer portal, an outside source confirmed, though Fresno State has not acknowledged the move or made an official comment on his status on the team.

Haener, who ranked second in the Mountain West Conference and eighth in the nation in passing, entered the portal last week after coach Kalen DeBoer took a prime Power Five opportunity at Washington in the Pac-12. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb also left for Washington, as has linebackers coach Julius Brown.

The move was first reported by on3sports among others.

The Bulldogs on Wednesday hired coach Jeff Tedford for a second go-round at his alma mater. Tedford was the Bulldogs’ coach when Haener transferred to Fresno State from Washington in fall camp prior to the 2019 season. He sat out that year under NCAA transfer rules, and has started the past 18 games for the Bulldogs.

Fresno State is set to play Texas-El Paso in the Dec. 18 New Mexico Bowl.
