Fresno State men’s basketball player Nate Grimes was arrested on Monday afternoon on a domestic abuse charge, infliction of corporal injury on spouse/cohabitant, and booked into Fresno County Jail.

He was released on bond just after midnight Tuesday.

A Fresno Police spokesman said the victim in the case suffered visible injuries, so Grimes was booked rather than cited and an emergency protective order has been issued. There are no other charges related to the case, which will be filed and sent to the District Attorney’s Office.

An independent witness saw the dispute between Grimes and the victim, but didn’t see the assault, police said.

A Fresno State spokesman said the athletics department was aware of the incident, and had no further comment.

Grimes and the Bulldogs completed their season with a loss to Air Force in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament on March 4. The 6-foot-9 senior forward averaged 11.5 points and 10.2 rebounds and was one of only two players to average a double-double in conference play.

In late January, Grimes was suspended for one game for what coach Justin Hutson called conduct detrimental to the team.
