Bulldogs’ Grimes, Robinson honorable mention on All-Mountain West team
Fresno State senior Nate Grimes is one of just two players in the Mountain West to average a double-double in conference play, but the 6-foot-8 forward did not land a spot on the first, second or third all league teams.
Grimes, who averaged 11.0 points and 10.7 rebounds, and freshman Orlando Robinson both were honorable mention all-league selections for the Bulldogs, who open the Mountain West Tournament at noon Wednesday against Air Force in a No. 8-No. 9 matchup at the Thomas & Mack Center.
San Diego State guard Malachi Flynn was selected by conference coaches as the player of the year in the Mountain West and the defensive player of the year. Nevada guard Jalen Harris is the newcomer of the year, Colorado State guard Isaiah Stevens the freshman of the year and Nevada guard Nisre Zouzoua the sixth man of the year.
The Aztecs’ Brian Dutcher, who has led San Diego State to a 28-1 record, 17-1 in conference play, is the coach of the year.
Robinson, the only Bulldog to play in every game in an injury-riddled season, is averaging 12.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in Mountain West play.
