Richard Torrez Jr. ‘crumbles’ his opponent to the canvas in latest TKO win in 5th round
Richard Torrez Jr. passed his biggest test since turning pro in 2022.
The Tulare native and Mission Oak grad made it 10th straight knockouts when he ended the fight Saturday night in San Diego when he stopped Brandon Moore by technical knockout.
The time of the stoppage in the fifth round was 1:39.
“I give Moore a lot of respect,” said Torrez, who improved to 10-0. “Anyone who goes toe-to-toe like that deserves my respect. I expected a lot from him, but I followed the game plan and got the job done.”
Torrez stunned Moore (14-1, 8 KOs) with a right hook to the jaw in the fifth round that backed his opponent to the other corner.
Torrez landed more stiff shots to the head and a left jab to the temple sent Moore to the canvas. Moore got up before Torrez landed more shots before referee Thomas Taylor stopped the fight.
ESPN commentators even mentioned Moore “crumbles to the ground” after the shot.
“He took some really good shots,” Torrez said. “At the end of the day, you can only take so much.”
