State champs again! How Fresno City College volleyball won its second California title
The Fresno City College women’s volleyball team captured its second state title in school history after defeating West Valley in four sets on Sunday.
The Rams finished with Lexi Pagani’s match-point kill then the players celebrated on their home floor becoming the first junior college in 40 years to win a state title as the tournament host.
After dropping the first set 25-22, the Rams took the next three 25-17, 25-18, 25-19.
Fresno City won its first state title in 2016 in coach Kieran Roblee’s first year.
Under Roblee, the Rams have won 57 home matches.
Pagani was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
She finished with 19 kills (.hit .378), served five of the Rams’ eight aces and had nine digs and three blocks.
Her twin sister, Julia, had 50 assists. Also contributing were Shelby Saporetti (four blocks) and Ali Santoyo (13 digs).
Fresno City’s home title was the first since El Camino College accomplished the feat in the 1981 season.
