Fresno City College punches ticket to state volleyball final after topping NorCal’s top-seed
The Fresno City College volleyball team is one win away from another state title under coach Kieran Roblee.
And the Rams had no problem dispatching NorCal’s top-seed Feather River in the process.
Fresno City dominated from set one en route to a 25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 25-19 victory over the Eagles to advance to the state championship against West Valley. West Valley swept American River in the other semifinal match.
The championship is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Fresno City College gymnasium.
Fresno City advanced to the semifinals after a three-set win over San Diego Mesa, 25-23, 25-16 25-11, on Friday.
That set up a rematch against Feather River, which split two regular-season contests with the Rams. The Eagles’ two losses came against Fresno City.
It was the first time in the 44-year history of the state championships that the final four comprised four Northern California teams.
Roblee now has 146 wins against 17 losses as the Rams coach.
Fresno City’s last and lone state title came in 2016 under Roblee — her first year as the Rams coach. Fresno City swept Los Angeles Pierce.
