Buchanan High alum leads nation in blocks for No. 1 Hawaii men’s volleyball team
A Buchanan High product is in the middle of Hawaii’s run to No. 1 in men’s volleyball.
Literally.
Patrick Gasman is the Rainbow Warriors’ middle blocker, Buchanan High Class of 2015. The 6-foot 10-inch redshirt junior is the nation’s leading blocker with 90.
Gasman has been a key contributor all three seasons after redshirting his first year on the islands. Last season he was named All-Big West and American Volleyball Coaches Association honorable mention.
At Buchanan, he made the AVCA Senior All-American and Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 lists while helping the Bears reach the CIF Southern California Regional semifinals.
In 2017, he played on the U.S. Junior National team.
Hawaii (21-0, 4-0 Big West) hasn’t lost a set all season. It moved up to No. 1 last week after USC upset Long Beach State. The Rainbow Warriors finish the regular season with matches Friday and Saturday at UC San Diego, April 5-6 at home against No. 3-ranked UC Santa Barbara and April 12-13 at No. 2 Long Beach State. The NCAA Final Four is also at Long Beach, May 2-4.
