Big Fresno Fair’s Paul Paul Theater is making room for a sporting event
Concerts have traditionally dominated the entertainment lineup at The Big Fresno Fair. This year, however, the fair is adding amateur boxing – a first at the Paul Paul Theater.
The first Big Fresno Fair Championships on Saturday, Oct. 7, partnered with Mike Hodgins’ South East Fresno Boxing Club, will feature 14 bouts and three title fights. Richard Torrez Jr. of Tulare, the current World Boxing Council amateur champion and 2017 Golden Gloves champion in the heavyweight division, will compete.
Undefeated pro boxer Jose Ramirez will make an appearance, too.
Fights begin at 7 p.m.
“Central Valley boasts some of the best boxing programs and fighters in the nation,” John Alkire, CEO of The Big Fresno Fair, said in a press release. “The popularity of this sport continues to grow and we are excited to see the community’s response to this event at the Fair this year.”
The fights are free with a paid fair admission, but a limited amount of reserved seat tickets will be available ($15-35). Tickets are on sale at www.FresnoFair.com, or by phone at 559-650-3247.
