Castro’s great leadership demonstrates caring for students
There have been numerous letters to The Bee disparaging those who are saddened by the election of Donald Trump, and the support extended by Fresno State’s great President Joe Castro to our alarmed students, who have been vilified for months by candidate, now President-elect, Trump.
As a proud member of Fresno State, and of our Valley community, let me state emphatically that the repugnant statements made by our president-elect repeatedly disparaging the decency of women, our hard-working immigrants, the disabled among us, and Muslims whose contributions to America are legion, are antithetical in every way to the principles of tolerance, inclusion, and respectful speech for which our magnificent university stands.
Is it any wonder, therefore, that many of our fine students, be they women, the children of immigrants, the disabled or Muslim feel deeply offended and threatened by a president-elect, who in speech and action, has mocked and disparaged them repeatedly over the last 18 months?
As an administrator at Fresno State, I state from a place of love for this great nation my complete support for our students of all races and nationality, and for President Castro’s outreach and caring for these students, the very definition of leadership and greatness.
Peter McDonald, Fresno
