Dense fog is causing crashes, delaying schools in Fresno. Here’s when it will end

The dense fog engulfing the Fresno area may be sticking around for at least a bit longer.

Emily Wilson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Hanford office, said people can expect to see the fog every morning through the end of next week.

Wilson said an area of high pressure is keeping the conditions stable and preventing breakage in weather patterns. Fog may even linger into the afternoon in some parts of the Valley, Wilson said.

While the fog dissipates later in the day, air condensation will continue forming overnight, leading to foggy conditions.

The foggy conditions this week impacted school bus schedules at several schools, leading to 3-hour schedule delays in Clovis Unified and Madera Unified on Friday.

Friday’s foggy conditions led to several car crashes in Fresno County. One crash on Highway 43, between Selma and Laton, involved four commercial trucks. Another crash in Clovis resulted in an injured teenager.

On Sunday, a fog-related 19-car pileup on Highway 99 in Fresno resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man.
