When are rain, strong winds returning to Fresno area? Here’s the latest forecast

More rain is coming to Fresno after a brief pause in precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.

Two storm systems are expected to move through the area.

The initial storm will mostly affect the southern coast of California, including Monterey and areas around Los Angeles, said Emily Wilson, a meteorologist with the weather service.

“It’s not going to be super big for the Valley,” Wilson said. “It’s mostly just going to skate by.”

However, a second storm system will bring showers and gusty winds to the Merced area next week, the weather service said.

There’s “moderate to high probability” of “strong wind gusts more then 35 mph across much of the elevated terrain in Central California,” the agency said in an X post. “Some of these stronger winds have the potential to extend into the west and north San Joaquin Valley.”

The last time Fresno saw any measurable rain was on Wednesday, March 5, when 0.55 inches fell in the Central Valley city, the weather service said.

Here’s what to know:

What’s in the weather forecast for Fresno?

Friday is expected to be sunny, with a high temperature near 60 degrees and a calm wind around 5 mph in the afternoon, according to the weather service’s latest seven-day forecast.

The weather service predicted a low temperature of around 39 degrees on Friday night.

Saturday will also be sunny, with a high near 66.

Temperatures will drop to 42 in the evening.

On Sunday, the high will be near 73 with a low around 44, according the weather service.

“We’re expecting a little bit warmer temperatures for the weekend, looking to get into the 60s for highs,” weather service meteorologist Emily Wilson said. “By Sunday, we’re expecting Fresno to get into the 70s.”

When will rain start in Fresno?

There will be a 20% chance of rain on Monday, particularly after 10 a.m., the weather service said.

Monday will see a high of 68 and an overnight low around 48.

On Tuesday, there’s a 20% chance of rain. Otherwise, the day will be partly sunny, with a high near 67 and a low of 49.

Tuesday night has a 30% chance of precipitation, mostly after 10 p.m.

“The real system that’s going to be affecting our area ... (is) going to be coming through on Wednesday into Thursday,” Wilson said. “It’s going to be a fairly wet system, just according to what our models have right now.”

Rain is likely on Wednesday, the weather service said, along with wind gusts as high as 20 mph.

Fresno will see “at least two-tenths of an inch” of rain, Wilson said, with rainfall totals up to half an inch.

The high on Wednesday will be near 61 and the low will be around 44.

Rain will continue until Thursday, when the weather service predicted an 80% chance of precipitation and up to a quarter-inch of rain.

Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.

Will it snow in Sierra Nevada?

“The mountains might see a little bit of extra snow, like a tiny bit of dusting, but it’s going to be real minimal on Monday and into Tuesday,” Wilson said.

According to weather service models, it was too early to tell how much snow could fall in parts of the Sierra Nevada later in the week.
