Rain is returning to Fresno, along with a possible thunderstorm. How much will we get?
Rain is returning to the Fresno area, along with cooler temperatures and a possible thunderstorm, according to the National Weather Service.
“We are looking at about a quarter of an inch or so of rain,” said J.P. Kalb, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Up to 8 inches of precipitation could fall in the Sierra Nevada, Kalb said.
The last time Fresno had any measurable rainfall was on Feb. 13, when 1.1 inches of rain fell, the weather service said.

What’s in the weather forecast for Fresno?
Friday was expected to be mostly sunny on Friday, with a high temperature near 79 degrees and calm winds around 5 mph in the afternoon, according to the weather service’s latest seven-day forecast.
The overnight low temperature was expected to be around 50 degrees, the weather service said.
Saturday is forecast to be sunny, with a high near 75 and calm winds around 5 mph.
When will the rain start?
On Saturday night, there’s a 30% chance of precipitation with rain after 4 a.m., the weather service said. The low will be around 51.
On Sunday morning, there is a 70% chance of precipitation.
Rain will likely fall between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the weather service said, with a possible thunderstorm after 4 p.m.
The rain will most likely dampen Tower District’s Mardi Gras parade, which starts at 1 p.m.
The day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 59 and wind gusts as high as 15 mph.
Fresno can expect “rainfall amounts between a 10th and quarter of an inch,” the weather service said, noting that “higher amounts (are) possible in thunderstorms.”
“We’re actually looking at temperatures to drop into the 60s on Sunday,” Kalb said.
More rain could fall Sunday night.
A thunderstorm is possible before 10 p.m. Sunday, the weather service said, and there’s a chance of 70% of rain after 10 p.m.
Sunday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 45 and winds around 5 mph.
How long will wet weather last?
Rain could continue into next week, according to the weather service.
“We are looking at multiple storms coming through right now,” Kalb said.
Monday will have a 30% chance of rain, mainly before 10 a.m. The high will be near 59, and the overnight low will be 43.
On Tuesday, Fresno is anticipating a 10% chance of rain after 4 p.m.. The day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 62 and calm winds around 5 mph.
Tuesday night has a a 30% chance of rain, mainly after 10 p.m. Otherwise the day will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 46 and wind gusts around 5 mph.
Wednesday is likely to see some more rain. The day will be cloudy with a high near 61 and a low around 47.
The sky won’t be dry after that either, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday has a 40% chance of rain but will otherwise be partly sunny, with a high near 63, according to the forecast.
