How hot will it get in Fresno on Labor Day? Here’s the forecast for the holiday weekend

Scorching hot summer weather is in store for Fresno as Labor Day approaches, according to the National Weather Service.

The Fresno area can expect high temperatures near 100 degrees over the weekend,said Brian Ochs, a meteorologist with the Natural Weather Service office in Hanford.

There will be “a little bit of a cooling trend” on Monday, Labor Day, Ochs said.

“We’re looking at near-average temperatures for Labor Day,” he added. But it will still be a hotter than last year.

What’s in store for Fresno weather?

Thursday was expected to be sunny in Fresno with a high temperature near 97 degrees, according to the weather service’s seven-day forecast. The temperature will cool down Thursday night with a low of temperature around 68 degrees.

Winds around 5 mph are forecast for Thursday afternoon and night, as well as much of the week.

Friday will be sunny with a high near 99 and a low around 70.

On Saturday, conditions will get hotter for the San Joaquin Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

“We are looking at highs near 100 degrees,” Ochs said.

Saturday will be sunny with a high near 99 and a low around 68, while Sunday will see a high near 98 and a low around 67.

Winds could gust as high as 15 mph on Sunday night.

What’s the forecast for Labor Day? Next week?

On Monday, Labor Day, Fresno will experience sunny skies with a high temperature near 95 and a low temperature around 67.

Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 96 and an overnight low around 69.

The weather is expected to heat up again on Wednesday, which is forecast to have a high near 102.

“It’s going to be pretty hot for much of next week,” Ochs said, “so we’re going to see a return to triple-digit heat at least by Wednesday of next week that probably lasts several days.”

Ochs said he doesn’t see it getting “much cooler until maybe the second week of September.”

Fresno is “still looking at above-average temperatures” at that point, he said.

September of last year temperatures were a bit cooler and the high was 79 F.

How to stay safe over Labor Day weekend

The weather will typically be hotter from late morning until 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Here are some tips for how to enjoy Labor Day weekend safely, courtesy of Ochs:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes
  • Stay indoors as much as possible
  • If you are outside, stay in the shade
  • Be more careful going into the water as rivers will be running faster
