What will fall weather be like in California this year? Here are early forecasts

After a scorching hot summer, fall is coming to California.

The official first day of fall, also known as the autumn equinox, is on Sunday, Sept. 22.. The season will run its course until winter arrives on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Early predictions are out on what weather the Golden State can expect in the coming months.

Here’s what to know.

What will fall weather be like in California?

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, all of California can expect above-average temperatures this fall.

The almanac has been publishing weather forecasts, as well as gardening and cooking guides, since 1792.

What are normal temperatures across the state?

In Modesto, the mean maximum temperature is about 89 degrees in September, according to the National Weather Service. The mean minimum temperature is slightly above 58 degrees.

In October, the mean high is about 79 degrees while the mean low is about 51 degrees.

Temperatures in the area tend to dip in November, when the mean high is about 65 degrees and the mean low is about 43 degrees.

That’s similar to seasonal temperatures in Sacramento, Fresno and Merced.

In contrast, Pismo Beach in San Luis Obispo County experiences a mean maximum temperature of nearly 72 degrees in September and a mean minimum temperature of about 53 degrees.

in October, the mean high is 72 degrees and the mean low is 52 degrees.

The mean high in November is 69 degrees and the low is nearly 57 degrees.

What’s in the autumn forecast for California?

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center also has a long-range forecast for autumn.

As of Aug. 15, temperatures were leaning above normal for most of California for the months of September to October and November.

However, temperatures were expected to have equal chances of being able and below normal along the coast, according to the Climate Prediction Center.

Will California see rain this fall?

According to the Climate Prediction Center’s precipitation outlook for September through November, parts of California may see below-normal rain.

Specifically, areas south of the San Francisco Bay Area are likely to have below-normal precipitation, the center said.

The region north of the Bay Ara has an equal chance of having below or above-normal rain.

According to National Weather Service records, Modesto normally sees 0.06 inches of precipitation in September.

The area typically receives 0.55 inches of rain in October and 1.07 inches in November.

Normally, Fresno gets 0.05 inches of rain in September, 0.56 inches in October and 0.87 inches in November.

Rainfall amounts are similar in Merced during those months.

Sacramento, meanwhile, receives 0.09 inches of rain in September, 0.85 inches in October and 1.66 inches in November.

September typically brings 0.08 inches of rain to Pismo Beach, while the area sees 0.79 inches in October and 1.81 inches in November.
