A seasonal rarity for Fresno: Storm puts rainfall total above normal. When to expect more

A storm front that brought a weekend of rainfall to the central San Joaquin Valley departed Monday, leaving the region in a rare position: ahead of the seasonal total.

The National Weather Service in Hanford reported a total of 2.35 inches of rain by Monday evening, 142% of the normal amount for Dec. 5 in the rainfall season running from Oct. 1 to Sept 30, 2023.

There may be a few showers Tuesday, but nothing like the bounty brought over the weekend, said Jim Bagnall, a meteorologist with the weather service in Hanford.

However, “we are still in a pretty active pattern,” he noted. “More storms are coming through by the end of the week.”
