Record-breaking heat is coming to Fresno. How hot will it be? How long will it last?
Fresno has been on a bit of a temperature roller coaster as of late, with daily highs fluctuating 10 to sometimes 20 degrees, from week to week.
This week, that coaster is back on a climb.
The National Weather Service is calling for a warming trend on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures in the high-70s and mid-80s. By Thursday the trend goes from unseasonably warm to record-breaking.
The weather service predicts Fresno’s afternoon highs will be in the mid-90s both days. That is nearly 25 degrees above the seasonal norm and the hottest it’s been for the date since 1989.
In most of San Joaquin Valley, it’s 50/50 that the maximum temperature breaks 95 degrees Thursday. That goes up to anywhere from 60 to 80 percent on Friday, the weather service says.
This follows a particularly warm and dry March, which had its own set of record-breaking warmth.
The ridge of high pressure that’s causing this current warmth should break down some during the weekend. The weather service says high temps on Saturday could drop 10-12 degrees, but remain above above the seasonal norm.
Sunday should be back to normal, the weather service says.
