A storm front moved through Fresno on Monday evening bringing some heavy rainfall, lightning and thunder.

Fresno saw the bulk of the rainfall hit at around 5 p.m. and linger for an hour, dropping a total of .44 of an inch, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Bagnall in Hanford.

Bagnall said that a small amount of lightning and thunder was reported in the area as the storm moved through Fresno.

Small lingering showers are expected to remain overnight in some areas in the central San Joaquin Valley. Reports of heavy rain and small amounts of hail came from the Selma and Merced areas Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast for the rest of the week is dry and gradually warming. Monday’s high temperature was in the low 60s and is expected to warm up to the high 60s Tuesday. Temperatures throughout the week are expected to continue to rise leading into the high 70s on Friday, with the possibility of rising to the 80s over the weekend.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in parts of the Sierra with snow expected to reach 6 to 12 inches above 6,000 feet and in isolated areas. The National Weather Service cautioned people driving in the area to slow down as travel will be difficult to almost impossible.
