Activist Shaun King will campaign for Bernie Sanders in Fresno. Here’s when and where

Civil rights activist Shaun King will stop in Fresno for next week’s Art Hop to stump for Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

King’s Fresno stop is one of a 10-day California tour where he will “campaign around the clock” for the Vermont senator, he said in a Friday announcement on social media. King also will stop in the Bay Area and Southern California.

“I lived and worked in California for years and love it so much,” King wrote on Twitter. “We will be announcing events, canvasses, phone banks, parties, trainings, more soon.”

Perhaps best known for his support of the Black Lives Matter movement, King has a massive online following which he leverages to support victims and find clues that lead to arrests and prosecution of white supremacists or police officers involved in high-profile and questionable shootings. Other online activists have criticized how King spends the money he raises.

Sanders is the first Democratic presidential candidate to open an office in Fresno, and he drew a large crowd to Fresno City College in November for a campaign rally. Of the Democratic candidates, Sanders employs the biggest staff in California, where he’s working to capture the Latino vote.

“The Bernie 2020 movement is driven by the voices and needs of marginalized Americans, as we work to build a country where everyone has access to safe housing, affordable healthcare, and good, union jobs,” said Rafael Návar, Bernie 2020 California state director. “Shaun has dedicated his life to social justice and creating a more equitable world. We are proud to have his support.”
