Who’s giving to Fresno area candidates? Late donations keep coming in

Less than two months into 2020, Fresno mayoral candidate Jerry Dyer has garnered more than three times the amount of donation dollars as Andrew Janz, his main opponent.

The two candidates continue to collect campaign money as the calendar moves closer to the March 3 primary race.

Dyer, Fresno’s former police chief, reported $206,825 since the start of the year, compared to the $60,646 reported by Janz, a prosecutor for the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, according to candidate forms filed with the Fresno City Clerk.

The other five candidates for Fresno mayor have not reported any contributions.

The maximum contribution for an individual or business is $4,700 per calendar year.

Dyer pulled in donations of $4,700 each from Amendola Investments, PC Solutions owner John Marihart, Farshid Assemi of the Assemi Group, Bud Richter, Civic Center Square Inc. and Ignacio Guzman Family Medicine Inc..

The single $4,700 donation Janz garnered came from the California Laborers for Equality and Progress Small Contributor Committee. A $350 contribution to Janz came from the committee to elect Councilmember Nelson Esparza.

District 4

Fresno City Council District 4 candidate Tyler Maxwell out earned candidate Nathan Alonzo in campaign money for the first part of the year.

A staffer for Fresno City Councilmember Nelson Esparza, Maxwell collected $43,930 from the New Year through Feb. 15, the end of the reporting period. Alonzo, who is a community relations director for the Caglia Family of Companies, garnered $35,035 in that same time.

Both candidates received $3,000 from the Fresno City Firefighters Union in February. Each also pulled in donations from the committee to elect Councilmember Miguel Arias; Maxwell got $2,700 from that committee this year and Alonzo tallied $2,000.

Alonzo’s largest late donations include $5,000 from an Oakland-based transit union, and a non-monetary donation worth $4,700 from Fresno-based Jeffrey Scott Agency. He also got another $2,000 from the committee to elect state Sen. Andreas Borgeas, R-Fresno.

Maxwell took in $4,200 from the committee to elect State Center Community College District trustee Annalisa Perea. Two other donations of $4,700 and $4,600 came from a Long Beach-based labor committee and Roseville-based credit union, respectively.
