A father shot his 27-year-old son after the son attacked his mother, Arizona sheriff’s officials reported.

The son, who had been drinking heavily, began an altercation after being told to “go sleep it off” at 11:49 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at a home in Golden Valley, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

His father called 911 to report his son was causing a disturbance, deputies said.

While deputies were en route to the home, the son moved toward his father, who shot him in the neck, deputies said.

The son was hospitalized in critical condition, deputies said. A video showed him fighting with his mother and approaching his father in an aggressive manner.

No arrests were made, deputies said. An investigation into the shooting continues.

Golden Valley is about a 205-mile drive northwest from Phoenix.
