Fresno County Coroner IDs man shot to death, woman killed in fire
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified two people who died in separate incidents Saturday.
Johnny Ruiz, 25, of Fresno, was killed in a drive-by shooting around 10:45 p.m. near Peach and Huntington avenues. He and another man were dropped off at Community Regional Medical Center shortly after the shooting. The other victim, a 23-year-old man, was listed in stable condition Saturday.
Police are still searching for a suspect, described as a Hispanic man driving a white Chevy Malibu with a Fresno State sticker on the back window.
Dorothy Valiant, 70, of Fresno, died earlier that day when her home on Cornell Avenue near Shields and Maroa avenues caught fire. A firefighter was burned slightly during a rescue attempt. Investigators believe Valiant was in the room where the fire started. The home did not have smoke detectors. Two other residents escaped unharmed.
