19-year-old shot to death identified by Fresno police. A 13-year-old was arrested

Police arrested a 13-year-old following a fatal shooting Tuesday night at an apartment complex in northwest Fresno.

In an update Wednesday, police said a gunshot was heard around 8 p.m. near Reflections Apartment Complex on Barstow and Brawley avenues. Officers responded and initially were unable to find evidence of a shooting until the department was notified of a victim inside the complex, some 20 minutes later.

Officers found the victim inside an apartment.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and later died, police said.

Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Edgar Hernandez.

The department also confirmed the arrest of the younger teen and said he is responsible for the shooting.

The suspect, who is not being identified because of their age, was booked into the Juvenile Justice Campus on suspicion of manslaughter.

The department clarified that investigation was not being treated as a homicide, and that the killing will not be counted toward the city’s homicide totals for 2026.
