A man accused of carjacking a stolen Jaguar and leading law enforcement on a pursuit through Fresno County was taken into custody Friday following a coordinated response involving local police.

Authorities said officers initially identified the green Jaguar as a stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop just after 11:30 a.m.

The driver fled, prompting a brief pursuit before officers terminated the chase for safety reasons.

Investigators then interviewed the victim and determined the incident involved more than vehicle theft.

According to officials, the suspect allegedly carjacked the vehicle after confronting the victim at the County Market, located at 373 W. North, and used the car as a deadly weapon during the encounter.

The California Highway Patrol and Fresno police helicopter assisted in the pursuit while officers gathered additional details from the victim.

Officials said the suspect drove south before returning north toward Fresno.

CHP later initiated a pursuit and successfully deployed spike strips to disable the vehicle.

The pursuit ended on northbound Highway 41 near East Klepper Street in Kingsburg, just north of Conejo, where CHP officers and Fresno police conducted a traffic stop and arrested the suspect without further incident.

The suspect was booked on multiple charges, including carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon involving a vehicle, felony evading, and resisting arrest.
