Alejandro Apodaca, 31, was taken into custody Wednesday following an alleged incident that occurred May 10 while he was on duty.

In an update from the Fresno Police Department on Thursday, officers responded to a report within city limits after a victim accused Apodaca of sexually assaulting them.

Authorities said the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation. Investigators also served a search warrant at Apodaca’s home for DNA.

The Sheriff’s Office placed Apodaca on administrative leave. Police said he later posted bond and was released from jail. His next bond hearing is scheduled for May 28.

“It is disappointing to see one of our own accused of the same types of violent crimes that I took an oath to combat,” Sheriff John Zanoni said in a news release. “I want to ensure the public that we hold our employees accountable just as we do community members who we contact and arrest for misconduct.”
