A security guard was stabbed Monday at a Golden 1 Credit Union in Fresno.

Officers responded to a disturbance at 1:35 p.m. at the branch on East Shaw Avenue at Effie Street near Highway 41, where the guard was injured while attempting to intervene in a family dispute.

Police said the initial call reported an argument between a woman and her adult sons. At the scene, officers were told that one of the men was cutting himself during the altercation.

Shortly afterward, police received an update that a security guard at the bank had been stabbed. Investigators say the guard stepped in to break up the confrontation when one of the individuals allegedly used a pocket knife to attack him.

The guard sustained what authorities described as a superficial injury to his back and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

The suspect remains at large, and police have not released a description. The credit union was closed as officers continued their investigation.
