A man is in jail after being accused of striking a Fresno police officer on Sunday.

Police said the disturbance happened just after midnight in front of City Hall, where the man had a metal pole and was harassing a security officer.

Officers arrived, and the man immediately refused to cooperate, swung the pipe and hit an officer, causing minor injuries, according to Fresno police Lt. Michael Pierce.

A brief struggle ensued, and the man was taken into custody.

The man was charged with assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, deterring officer by threat/violence, battery on a police officer and obstructing public officer.
