More than $3,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe account for the family of the dog that was beaten to the “point of near death” earlier this week in Corcoran.

According to the Corcoran Police Department, on Jan. 12, around 5:29 p.m. officers responded to the 1000 block of San Joaquin for a report of an individual beating a dog within the backyard of a residence.

According to the GoFundMe account organized by Lisa Simmons of Corcoran, Doja, the female dog, got out of her backyard and got into the neighbor’s yard where a man beat Doja “to the point of near death” without any provocation.

Officers arrived at the residence and attempted to contact a man, who according to CPD news release was hostile and immediately barricaded himself within the residence refusing to communicate.

Police said officers located the dog, which had sustained several injuries because of the assault, within the backyard of the home.

According to the police, the dog was reunited with its owners and transported for medical evaluation and care.

“Doja is now at the vet’s office, and her bills are already totaling over $5,000,” said Simmons in the GoFundMe account. “Unfortunately, the family of 6 does not have the money to cover her expenses and may have to put Doja to sleep. Please help Doja and her family; any amount of money will help.”

As of Friday, Jan. 16, $3,580 out of the $5,000 has been raised to help Doja heal from “horrible abuse.”

No other updates regarding Doja’s condition have been released as of Friday.

Corcoran police said they have worked with Kings County District Attorney Victim Services to help the family obtain financial support and ensure their dog receives the proper medical treatment and after care.

Police said they are actively investigating the incident.
